The NSW Adult Migrant English Service, known as NSW AMES, is a NSW State Government business unit managed by TAFE NSW.

NSW AMES provides leadership in the field of English language and literacy education through resource and curriculum development, and is:

  • a leading producer of multimedia online English language resources
  • an award winning mobile language learning app developer
  • Australia’s largest publisher of language and literacy resources and teaching materials
  • the creator of the most widely taught national language and literacy curricula in Australia, the Certificates in Spoken and Written English, or CSWE.

Established in 1951, NSW AMES developed its expertise through teaching English to over 1.5 million people in the classroom, in the workplace, online and via distance education.

Supporting leading institutions

World-wide, over 500 institutions integrate NSW AMES online English resources, curriculum and published teaching materials into their English language programs. Domestic and international clients include universities, colleges, TAFEs, high schools, language colleges, government agencies, libraries and corporates. NSW AMES has sold over 300,000 individual licences to use its online resources including Apps, in Australia, China, Indonesia, and India.
